Ko Ko Gyi

In 1988, Ko Ko Gyi was a few months away from his graduation as a final year students at the Rangoon University. On March 13, 1988 a peaceful student protest in the Rangoon Institute of Technology (RIT) was brutally crushed down by the authorities and two students were shot to death by the riot police. Min Ko Naing

He was detained in March 1989. He was in solitary confinement in Prison without any trial and finally in December 1991, he was arbitrarily sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. He was released in November 2004. In a radio interview on Nov 22, 2004, he said, “While we were in prison, they gave their support and encouragement to us; they did their best for us. We felt like a person in a winter river that catches sight of a small light far away. We did not feel it directly; we partially felt it.

Htay Kywe

Ko Htay Kywe was a prominent leader in nationwide pro-democracy student protest in Burma in 1988. He is one of the sons of U kywe and Daw Mi Mi Kywe. He was in his Second Year Geology, Rangoon University ( in 1988). He lives No.138/C ,New Avenue University Road, Bahan. First detained in 1988, he was arrested again in 1991 and sentenced to 15 years in prison later that year.

Nobal Aye

Hnin May Aung (alias) Nobel Aye (27) had been arrested since September 1998 because of involving in movements for the Committee Representative People Parliament (CRPP). Hninn May Aung was a third year Physics student from Dagon University at that time and she organized students and took leadership in 3 demonstrations in Rangoon. She also delivered clandestine bulletins from underground students’ organization.
